MY SCRAN CHOICE

We decided to share two starters and two mains, and our choices were shaped by the most popular dishes ordered at this Old Street venue…

STARTERS

PANKO LASAGNA

Truffle, Aged Provolone, Aioli

When perusing Offacina’s gallery and reviews, this creative bitesized lasagna caught the eye, and I find it hard to resist any fried goods. It was the highlight of the meal, and I only wish they created this in main-course form.

SOURDOUGH BREAD

Whipped Parmigiano Butter

This Whipped Parmigiano Butter was simply divine. Its almost bitty texture due to the parmesan offered great texture to the warm sourdough, and was a great kick-off to the meal.

MAIN COURSE

SPAGHETTI

Truffle Carbonara, Guanciale, Pecorino Romano

It was very difficult to select which pasta dish to go for, such were the array of choices on offer. The sauce drowned the pasta, and although it was delicious, the truffle carbonara was arguably too rich, and I found it difficult to eat the full plate. I also would have preferred the Pecorino Romano to be in thinner shards, as it also added to the heaviness of the dish.

CURLY PAPPARDELLE

Beef Short Rib Ragu, Meatballs, Burrata, Basil

I was very excited for this dish as as a lover of burrata, its pairing with beef short rib ragu was a salivating thought. In classic Offacina style, they also didn’t hold back on the sauce quantities, and this was delicious.

REFRESHMENTS

A lovely glass of the SAUVIGNON BLANC, CA' DI ALTE, VENETO, ITALY, to accompany the meal.

THE FEE

It was very reasonably priced and I’d highly recommend sharing 4-5 plates between two people to make the most of the experience.

THE REVIEW

I was slightly disappointed by the truffle carbonara dish as the flavours were a little overpowering. However, the vibe of the restaurant was simultaneously modern and relaxing, which was reflected in the style and execution of the food. I’d go back just to have the Panko Lasagna, it was truly delectable. I’d definitely recommend a visit to Offacina if you are in East London and fancy a quick Italian lunch.
